چکیده

abstract this paper presents a quantitative account of vegetation–environmental factor relationships in arid rangelands. vegetation cover was recorded using braun-blanquet combined abundance-cover scale in each quadrat. within each quadrat, one profile was dug and soil samples being taken at 0-20cm and 20-100cm depths. under study physical-chemical characteristics included texture, lime, organic matter, soil moisture content, saturation moisture, ec and ph. five vegetation groups were identified after the application of two way indicator species analysis (twinspan) and detrended correspondence analysis (dca) methods including: a: salsola richteri-aelorupes littoralis; b: zygophyllum eurypterum-haloxylon ammodendron; c: artemisia sieberi-zygophyllum eurypterum; d: ammodendron persicum-stipagrostis pennata; e: artemisia aucheri-amygdalus scoparia. canonical correspondence analysis (cca) was used in a direct gradient analysis of the vegetation with the environmental variables. the results of cca showed that first axis represented a landscape and edaphic gradient; it was positively correlated to soil texture and soil saturation moisture; it was negatively correlated with elevation and slope. the second axis represented mainly a soil moisture-salinity gradient; it was positively correlated with ec and soil moisture content. the results showed that those environmental factors that affect water availability were the most effective environmental factors in the distribution of vegetation groups in arid rangelands.

Soil-Vegetation Relationships in Arid Rangelands (Case Study: Nodushan Rangelands of Yazd, Iran)

The objective of this research was to identify the vegetation-soil relationships in Nodushan arid rangelands of Yazd. 5 sites were selected for measuring the cover of plant species and soil attributes. Soil samples were taken in 0-10 and 10-80 cm layers. The species studied were Salsola tomentosa, Salsola arbuscula, Peganum harmala, Zygophylum eurypterum and Eurotia ceratoides. Canonical corres...

Determining the Most Suitable Vegetation Index for Seperating Ecotone Boundaries in Arid Rangelands Using Satellite Data

Ecotones are zones of gradual changes from an ecological system to another.Ecotones monitoring could be important to find out the reason for changes and limits. Inthis research satellite data were used to analyze the ecotone boundary in Fars steppicrangelands using IRS LISS III and Pan data of year 2006. The real vegetation map andecotones prepared through Geo-eye images from Google earth softw...

Id # 26–07 Evaluation of a Number of Grass Species for Restoring Degraded Semi-arid Rangelands in Southern Africa

The biophysical environment is an important determinant of land degradation in both commercial and communal land tenure systems in South Africa. According to a recent study on the status of land degradation, approximately 25% of the total land cover in South Africa is degraded. Several technologies exist to restore the soil and vegetation degraded areas in natural pastures. To improve the produ...

Assessing vegetation rehabilitation under restoration operations in arid rangelands (Case study: Bastak, Hormozgan province)

Background and objectives A large area of Iran rangelands is located in arid and semi-arid areas which a significant percentage of them have been degraded and are not in good condition. In these areas, vegetation restoration is not easy due to the water scarcity. Water harvesting operations are among the necessary management measures to restore and develop the rangelands of these areas. Water ...
